Owen Sound, Ont. - Harbour Rehabilitation
Riggs Engineering was retained to provide a routine detailed inspection of the Owen Sound harbour structures and identified that ʺStructure 2ʺ had deteriorated due to damaged piles and lack of structural bearing of the superstructure. The bearing issues relate to a combination of deteriorated concrete and timber pile tops.
Riggs Engineering provided repair alternatives as follows:
- Encapsulating the existing timber piles with fiber reinforced plastic wrap;
- Replacing the damaged bracing system;
- Reinforcing split timber piles with steel banding; and
- Installing permanent steel forms as part of the concrete restoration.
The restoration improved the overall stability of the structure and restored the timber piles’ capacity.
